Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 13, 2024
At Inkwell, your privacy is not just a feature—it's a fundamental principle. We believe that the words you write, the ideas you form, and the documents you create belong to you and only you.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use Inkwell.
Your Data, Your Ownership
- You own your data. Every document you create, upload, or collaborate on is your intellectual property.
- We never train on your data. The content of your documents is never used to train our AI models—neither by us nor any third party.
- We do not sell or share your data. We never sell, rent, or otherwise share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties.
Document Privacy & Encryption
- End-to-end encryption. All documents are stored using strong encryption both in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256).
- Private by design. No one—including our team—can access the content of your documents unless explicitly shared by you.
- Full deletion on demand. When you delete a document or your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our servers, including backups, within a reasonable time window (typically within 30 days).
Your Control Over Your Information
- Access and export. You can access and export your data at any time through your account settings.
- Account deletion. You may delete your account and all data associated with it at any time via your profile settings.
- Transparency. We provide clear settings and controls to manage your preferences, including document visibility, integrations, and data usage.
Third-Party Services
We work with trusted third-party providers to deliver core aspects of the Inkwell experience (e.g., AI model inference, infrastructure). Where these services are used:
- No data is retained. We ensure that your data is not stored by any third-party service after processing.
- Confidentiality agreements. All vendors and processors are contractually bound to strict data handling policies.
- Minimal access. We only share data with third parties when absolutely necessary to deliver a requested feature or service, and never for marketing or analytics purposes.
Cookies & Analytics
- We use only essential cookies required to keep the product secure and functional.
- We may use privacy-first analytics tools (like Plausible or Fathom) that do not use cookies or track users across sites.
- No behavioural tracking, fingerprinting, or third-party marketing cookies are used.
Data Retention
- We retain your data only as long as needed to provide the service to you.
- Backups are securely maintained for up to 30 days for disaster recovery, after which data is permanently purged.
- Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.
International Users
We comply with global data protection standards including the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). If you are located outside the United Kingdom, please note that your information may be processed in the UK or other jurisdictions that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home country.
Children's Privacy
Inkwell is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or via email. You can always review the latest version on our website.
